Heavy Metal Doula
2 words. Controlled chaos.
Achell
What do those instruments bring to your sound that you don't get from the modular stuff?
Greg
Organic melodies I suppose.
Achell
You're based in Ubud, surrounded by a much slower and more peaceful environment. Does living there affect the way you make music?
Greg
Yes. I'm able to think much clearer with my approach to music. I used to live in Canggu, which is a shitty fucking place, and I couldn't hear myself think, i feel like i was living in a construction site.
Achell
How do you see the experimental/noise community in Bali right now?
Greg
It's an amazing community and it's growing.
Achell
You're also quite deep into Trogotronic stuff. What makes their gear so special for you?
Greg
2 words. Controlled chaos.
Achell
Outside of making noise, you've got a dog and a cat. Do they ever become part of the studio life, or are they just there to judge your music?
Greg
They just hang out there. My cat can't stand the noise though, lol.
Achell
Anything coming up that we should keep an eye (or ear) on — new releases, collaborations, gigs, or weird experiments?
Greg
I'm planning to release a collaboration album and another Heavy Metal Doula release this year. Possible dub gig some time this year! You never know!
Achell
Last one: any words for the YourSetUp readers and fellow noise freaks out there?
Greg
Don't abuse animals, abuse mixers. Fuck the police, and fuck politicians. Politicians === PEJUBAT.
